CRIME in the CARIBBEAN: An Overwhelming Phenomenon
by
Sir Ronald Sanders |
"It is an excellent
contribution to what I hope will be a Caribbean dialogue to address the
problems raised by the whole circumstance of crime in general”.
Anthony T. Bryan, Ph.D.
Professor of International
Relations, University of Miami
This booklet by a
Caribbean decision-maker is a telling account of the escalation in crime in
the Region linked to drug trafficking. Sir Ronald Sanders describes how
criminals, who are increasingly becoming more organised, outgun the national
police forces of Caribbean countries. He argues that no single country in
the Caribbean can cope with the problem and he criticises the international
community, particularly those countries that are the main markets for drugs,
for failing to help the Region manage the problem. He proposes a limited
international conference to pledge financial support dedicated to fighting
crime. |
